MediaNews Group Interactive agreement largest to date for eClassifiedXpress product

CityXpress Corp., a company whose online marketplaces have generated more than $65 million in revenue for newspapers in the past three years, today announced an agreement with MediaNews Group Interactive (MNGi), the new media division of MediaNews Group, Inc., to e-commerce enable 62 of its newspapers' classified ad sites using eClassifiedXpress.

"We've been working with CityXpress for some time now, and have great confidence in CityXpress' ability to deliver winning programs," said Eric Grilly, president of MediaNews Group Interactive. "We're looking forward to extending our relationship with CityXpress and helping our newspapers better serve consumers and private-party advertisers in their communities."

As part of the agreement, CityXpress will provide the e-commerce functionality and back-end systems for the newspapers' classified Websites, in conjunction with MNGi partners AdStar, provider of the online ad-taking tool used by MNGi's sites, and Power One Media, which provides many of the newspapers' online classified sites.

"The online marketplace offers newspapers the opportunity to leverage their position in the community and offer their readers services that are comparable to other companies such as eBay and craigslist," said Phil Dubois, president and CEO of CityXpress. "MediaNews Group has been an excellent partner and we're looking forward to taking their classifieds to the next level."

As part of the agreement, MNGi papers using eClassifiedXpress will also be able to use CityXpress' eMerchantXpress, a continuous auction-style marketplace for advertisers and consumers, and Ask Our Expert, an online feature that allows local business people to position themselves as experts.

MediaNews Group, whose newspapers have daily and Sunday circulations of approximately 2.2 million and 2.5 million respectively, represents the first corporate agreement for the eClassifiedXpress product. CityXpress recently announced signings with The Fresno Bee, The Telegraph of Nashua, N.H., and The Telegram and The Western Star of Newfoundland, Canada.

eClassifiedXpress operates on CityXpress' XpressMarketplace platform, which supports the company's successful XpressAuctions event auction program.
