SAMSUNG Gears up to Provide Unprecedented Wireless Equipment Technology Support for the Olympic ...Samsung Electronics, Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Telecommunications Equipment category and Presenting Partner of the Torino 2006 Olympic Torch ...For Torino 2006, Samsung has increased the number of official Olympic Winter Games phones it will provide to organizers, staff, volunteers, athletes and media to 8,000. Later this month, Samsung will complete the delivery of the SGH-D600 mobile phones, its latest flagship handset, which features the state-of-the-art mobile information service, Wireless Olympic Works (WOW). WOW provides officials with crucial, up-to-the-minute information and services critical to running the Games. Staff will be able to access schedules and results of events, update the medal count, receive medalists biographies, information on venues and weather, and group messaging from TOROC headquarters to on-site personnel. “TOROC greatly appreciates Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the Olympic Games with its leading technology.” said Valentino Castellani , President of TOROC, commented,, “Samsung’s mobile technology will enable thousands of staff members and volunteers to communicate quickly and efficiently about the operation of the Games.”
As the Presenting Partner of the Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay, Samsung is providing over 1,900 people from around the world a once-in-a-lifetime experience to run with the Olympic Flame. The company selected inspiring individuals, who embody the Olympic spirit, from thousands of sport fans who applied to various promotions as Samsung torchbearers. Starting from Rome on December 8, the Olympic Flame will be carried 11,300km by more than 10,000 participants before it arrives in Torino for the Opening Ceremony on February 10. For the first time, Samsung also will provide WOW’s special wireless phone services to help organizers of the Relay.
