Near the middle of last year, Sony Ericsson unveiled the P910, a cellular-wireless handheld that ran Symbian's UIQ interface.
This was Sony Ericsson's first attempt to put a QWERTY keyboard on one of its handhelds. At the bottom of the device was a numberpad which could be flipped down to expose a small keyboard. Many said this wasn't a very good design, as the keyboard was awkwardly placed (see picture below).
Supposedly, the company is currently working on a new design that that will have the keyboard built into the body of the device, not on the flip panel, according to Mobile-Review.com.
Other changes from its predecessor include Wi-Fi wireless networking and a megapixel camera.
Otherwise this device, which will reportedly be called the P915, will be quite similar to the P910.
This means it will have a 208-by-320 pixel touchscreen, Bluetooth, and support for GSM/GPRS networks. Reportedly, it will have no 3G capabilities.
There has been no word of which version of the Symbian OS this device will use. Its predecessor uses Symbian OS 7, but Symbian OS 8 has been out for a while, and Symbian OS 9 was recently announced.
It will use the UIQ user interface, which has been designed for pen-based, touchscreen handhelds such as this one.
It is not known when the P910 will be available.
